Netvibes Plans Universal Widget API

Erick Schonfeld has the scoop on some big plans at Netvibes. For starters, like Yourminis, they're going to make all of their modules exportable.

More importantly Netvibes is pushing for a Universal Widget API that will let widgets share data back and forth and synchronize content. Nice. But why not submit this as an extension to the proposed W3C standard? This should be a standard like XML, not something that benefits Netvibes above all.
