Gateway, Google Form Start Page Deal

Gateway, Inc. and Google have formed an alliance to put a customized version of the popular Google Personalized Homepage on Gateway and eMachines computers. You can find the respective Gateway and eMachines pages here and here. Google has a similar relationship with Dell. There's a lot of upside here because it's start pages that are going to make RSS feeds mainstream.

Given today's news about more robust versions of Google Docs, could deeper ties with the OEMs be in the works? With Google CEO Eric Schmidt is on the board of Apple you have to see something similar coming for Mac users at a minimum. (Disclosure: Google competes with Microsoft, an Edelman client)

The Gateway start page has been there for a really, really long time. (June 06?)

Interesting. Seems like Gateway was going under a short time ago.

I also have to agree. Dell has had their co-branded homepage for a few years now, this is nothing new at all.

What I'd like to know is how many customers actually add RSS feeds to their start pages. Then we'll know how much these OEM tie-ups really help push RSS to the mainstream.
