You can dig into this yourself on this controversial story about some remarks made by former NBA player Tim Hardaway. This particular story has attracted nearly 1000 comments in just 24 hours. ESPN is one of several big media properties that allows readers to comment on stories. The Washington Post has also embraced reader feedback.
::LATER: Heard from ESPN that this only applies to headline news stories. This post has been edited.

While I think Tim Hardaway's comments were unfortunate in that
they were not tolerant, since when was an unpopular opinion
grounds for a person being attacked like this. Basically, being
a jerk is a Right in this country, or so I thought. I think that
the reaction to situations like this are really Marketing moves
by Corporations that do not want to lose business.
....but I think it should be added that it is his right to have
whatever opinions he prefers.

Dear ESPN,
I am watching the WV/SFL game and one of the two announcers just said Pat White was no more than a Heishman Cheerleader tonight. This was totally inappropiate!!!! Everytime there is a WV game, the other team gets all the favorable comments from ESPN. No wonder so many people turn off their sound and listen to the game from their radios. It is more evenly announced. We are just the country bumpkins from WV. I really get tired of this. This man should be told about this comment.
