Washington Post Plans Blog Portal

The Washington Post is planning to launch a local Washington DC blog directory and portal site. Metroblogging DC was among one of the blogs briefed on the skunkworks project. Little information is available now. However, judging from the screen grab below local bloggers will be able to apply to get listed and blogs will be tagged by locale and topic. There are two photos from last night's event online.

Very cool... there's a similar setup in Oregon called orblogs: http://www.orblogs.com

There is a better setup in 21 states called blognetnews.com. Tracks what news stories local bloggers are linking to, which blog posts are getting the most comments, which blog posts are getting the most clicks etc. It has a targeted search engine that just searches local blogs and a leftyblogs-like headline service that you can customize by ideology and geography.
