Two New Tools for Tracking Online Videos
Here are two new tools for tracking viral videos that crossed my screen recently. Each is designed to capitalize in the boom in amateur online video.
vidmeter is a memetracker for video that aggregates the numbered of views and comments from the top listed uploads on Break.com, Daily Motion, Google, iFilm, Metacafe, Myspace, Revver, vSocial, Yahoo, and Youtube. It checks each site once per hour. They have RSS feeds and a bookmarklet that provides statistics for any video that appears on their chart.
iwatchthis comes from the smart gang behind iusethis. The latter is a popular site in the Mac community that counts up the users of different applications. Individuals who register on the iwatchthis site can aggregate their favorite videos from across the Web, also via a bookmarklet. Each user's page has a feed. One hopes that they will use all of this information to catalog videos the same way they do Mac OS X applications.
