Don't Pitch Your Posts
While I am on the subject of pitching, I've noticed another trend of late. PR pros are sending links out to bloggers every time a new post goes up on their corporate blog. Hitwise is notorious for this. They spam me virtually every day they blog, even though it's evident I already get their feed.
I am all for alerting relevant bloggers when launching a corporate weblog. That's a good idea. Be sure to encourage us to subscribe to the feed. But spamming bloggers daily like Hitwise does, especially when a little homework will show that I read your feed, guys, is stupid. It makes me want to unsubscribe, no matter how valuable the blog may be.

Good point, Steve. Reminds me of the almost daily email alerts for news search results involving blogging. A lot of the matches are individual blog posts from blogs that have the search terms in their titles, but not necessarily in their post titles. Annoying to get hit with duplicate info all the time.

I don't mind the occasional pitch, I get some useful pointers that way, but every post?
