My guess is that they are in fact integrating their systems. Somehow I have a feeling of their vision being something like "find anything in the world though the search box!" :D

In fact, Google News already includes a number of blogs (ex: Google Blogoscoped). Recently, a controversy exploded as someone complained about blogs being considered news. I think perhaps Google is moving in the opposite direction and will separate the services.

GoogleNews used to aggregate culturekitchen.com and then "poof", it disappeared from the rotation. I had about two months of email exchanges with them where basically they said "yes you are op/ed site but we can't tell you why we decided not to give aggregate you anymore".
GoogleNews will include the shams of news sites called "LifeNews" and "Men's News Daily" but has aggressively denied op/ed and news status to every single one of the top feminist bloggers who have requested to be included in their rotation.
GoogleNews is a sham when it comes to how the "non-editors" decide who gets to be aggregated and who does not.
I have written about this before. Go to http://www.culturekitchen.com/search and look up Google.

It's a shame that google syndication turns out this way. It always soon becomes a problem when the "man in the middle" is getting picky.

Looks like Google might be going to take blogs to main stream news.
