Wikimapia Community Documents One Million Places

Wikimapia is a fantastic site that I have blogged about before. It overlays a Google Map of the world with a wiki that anyone can read or write to. Interest in the site has been steadily growing. I know this because I receive a lot of in-bound on Wikimapia Google searches.

Today via digg comes word that Wikimapia hit a big milestone. They have indexed more than one million places. Here's a list of the most annotated cities. What's particularly interesting is how popular Wikimapia is in India and Southeast Asia. Also notable is just how fast Wikimapia reached a million places. It did so in under three months!
