I have been getting anywhere from 10 to 50 pitches for blog mentions per day via email plus a handful more by del.icio.us. A few of the pitches are excellent, some are ok and the rest are, well, ridiculous and sad. I think it's punishment for all of those years of pain I inflicted on journalists! Since it's the end of summer and I am in a really goofy mood, it's time to shake it up a bit. Let's see who's on their game!
I have a .Mac account, which gives me gobs of online disk space on iDisk - a hard drive that lives in the clouds. The nice thing about iDisk is that I have a public folder that anyone can read or write to. As long as I keep it open, people from around the world can visit this folder on the Web and either make a deposit or a withdrawal. Even better, any files you drop in the disk automatically show up on my desktop. (On the Mac there's little to worry about in the way of viruses or malware.)
So here's a wacky idea. For the next few days I will keep this folder open to the public and I will welcome pitches by uploads to my iDisk folder. The most creative pitches will earn link love from my blog. The disk is accessible on PCs so no worries if you're not on a Mac.
There are a few caveats: a) all files must be under a megabyte in size, b) I ask that you only upload PDFs, text files or jpegs/gifs (everything else will be trashed), c) this process is completely transparent so anything you upload will be open for everyone to see until the program ends (or I run out of space) and d) I reserve the right to cancel this program if I get spooked or something goes awry. :-)
Be creative! If this process works I may open the drop box again in the future. Just go here and upload your file.
