The Golden Geeks 2.0

BusinessWeek profiles Kevin Rose from digg in a cover story this week. The piece mercifully has a dose of realism added too. It also offers some interesting stats : digg is now the 24th-most popular Web site in the U.S and it's approaching the The New York Times' (No. 19) and is beating Fox News (No. 62), according to geekishly skewed data from Alexa.

What I found particularly poignant about the article is that it illustrates how a someone's idea can go from zero to 60 mph in such a short time. The barrier to building a powerful media brand has been lowered to zip. However, keep in mind these sites can pop down as quick as they pop up - particularly if hubris sets in. The web is a very transient place. Nevertheless,  there's little argument that the media world has changed and sites like digg are playing a huge role.

By the way the cover package reminds me of one we saw about ten years ago in Time. See for yourself.
