Philipp Lenssen gives us a primer on which sources Google News indexes. He polled roughly 1,4 million news stories per day by searching Google News for semi-random words and discovered over 8,600 distinct sites. Even better, he made these searchable. I found 90 sites alone that mention the word blog either in the title or the URL.
Another site that is valuable in tracking Google News is from privateradio.org. The publish a real-time report of all of the headlines that Google News indexes on the home page. The results are ranked by day and time, prominence, number of appearances, etc.
