EarthLink has quietly launched an RSS reader called the myEarthLink Reader that's tightly integrated with a new social bookmarking site that's similar to del.icio.us. I discovered the reader in my referrer logs.
The core selling point of the RSS reader, they say, is that it shows you only the new articles since your last visit, not all items in a feed that are unread. The reader appears to be built with AJAX and it supports OPML file import and exporting. You can also easily add feed items to your social bookmarks from directly inside the reader.
The social bookmarking site is similar to del.icio.us and Yahoo MyWeb. You can tag and share favorites and see all of the other bookmarks in the community that share the same tags.
EarthLink is facing the same dilemma that portals like AOL have. They need to make sure they keep eyeballs on their sites that might be gravitating to other stand-alone destinations. Adding a feed reader and social boomarking help keep people in EarthLink's domain by introducing a whole swath of newbies to the Web 2.0 experience. Thumbs up!
