American Cancer Society Taps Second Life for Fundraising
The American Cancer Society is doing some incredible work inside Second Life that really showcases how nonprofits can use new technologies to innovate how they fundraise. The nonprofit auctioned a virtual car in Second Life, raising $2,000. Meanwhile, a virtual relay race event is set to take place this weekend.

As the Society Staff member heading up this effort I am curious as to how you heard about the event. We are working very hard with our fantastic volunteers to pull together a massive and record-breaking Relay this year. I invite you to come and join us to see how strong community outreach and peer-to-peer can be in virtual space. Oh I also presented some of this at the American Marketing Association event in Chicago last month - I remember meeting you at an AMA event a year and a half ago in NYC.

Hi Steve,
Hah, just imagine if the Salvation Army took its army of little red buckets online this Christmas season? (Actually, I happen to know the person who would be in charge of that at the national office of the Army, and forwarded them your post. Maybe something will come of it? Stranger things have happened, right?)
Thanks for the good reading. FYI, I've linked my blog to this post.
Peace,
Gayle
