Virtual Marketing Jobs

Global Kids, Inc., a New York City based non-profit organization focused on urban youth, is actually looking for someone with experience in working as Second Life Special Trainer. The job involves working with young people to develop socially conscious games that inspire them to get involved in global affairs. The trainer will adapt existing workshops for use in the popular Second Life game. Man do I feel behind.

Hi Steve--
I don't understand how, aside from the word "virtual," the headline relates to the entry. Seems like you're talking about Virtual Training Jobs. Maybe I'm missing something?

"Man, do I feel behind"
I know the feeling: we are all so three month ago. But wait till you enter Second World (tried it?). I ran away after an hour and one avatar. Made me feel so...The word does not exist, yet, but not a good feeling.

How is this a positive effect? I think this "virtual" aspect is dangerous and isn't a replacement for real life. Maybe we should take a step back and almost devolve some of our technology philosophies. Why do something virtually when we can do it actually? Is life not that exciting anymore?

Very cool. Regarding some of the comments:

IMHO, there is no "virtual" versus "actual" world. That's a false dichotomy that to me, stems from a lingering Tron-like sensibility that "inside the computer" there's some funky electric world analogous to the "real world."

Everything you do, whether you do it online or offline, is "actual."

Now, we could discuss the pros and cons of various types of interaction and learning ... but we don't have to prejudice the discussion with terms that assume a particular viewpoint.

hello, i so very agree with mr. koetsier's comments. it's easy to think any thing virtual is "fake."

i'm a virtual/digital artist. and i'm real lol. i've been creating art in a virtual studio setting that i set up in 2001 and it's worked exceptionally well for me, creatively. when i do receive a sale, it's placed online via one of my galleries or via email. the printing and distribution is done offline. it's all real, just a different sort of reality.

being someone who enjoys connecting yet also enjoys a healthy dose of isolation, i get the internet and computers and all that. perhaps the online world will divide the population a bit into those who get it and those don't. and that's perfectly fine. "it takes every kinda people." (robert palmer)
