The MySpace Economy
Nial Kennedy has a round-up of stats about Technorati's traffic. Much of it comes from MySpace. Meanwhile, Pete Cashmore writes about a company that is building it's entire platform to support MySpace users. It seems - like it or not - that an entire economy is forming around MySpace the way it did around the iPod and Google. (Disclaimer: Edelman represents MySpace and we have a partnership with Technorati.)

Hi Steve,
After sifting through a few blogs and following-up your post about the emerging MySpace Economy, I'm coining "Marketplace Economy" as the catch-all for this trend, and I'll be tagging posts with it moving forward.

In the auction space, examples include US-based iSold it, Germany's dropshop and the UK's newly funded Auctioning4u.
Google's list is long, but I just posted about one worth mentioning: Plentyoffish.com
Markus (who claims that any idiot can make millions off Google) is the sole employee of Plentyoffish.com, one of the largest websites in the world and the largest dating site in Canada. His dating site is 100% free to use, and his only source of revenue is from AdSense.
He just got a check for $901,733.84 from Google for what he claims is for 2 months work.
Have a great weekend, and thanks for the inspiration.

Are there really that many singles in Canada? According to Alexa, there indeed are. Regarding those Technorati/MySpace numbers.... eh, can't comment :P.
