Podzinger "Searches" Video Podcasts

Podzinger today said they are now able to search both audio and video podcasts. It claims to allow users to search each and every word of the audio segments of a video podcast. I am a bit dubious. From a quick check it seems like they rely on the text surrounding a show, just like everyone else.

Podzinger already searches podcasts formatted in MP3 and other formats. Many popular videocasts use MP3 or similar audio formats for sound, so my guess is Podzinger is pulling the sound track and running the same analysis as its podcast search.

Have to say that I had a look at what it indexed of my feed but it wasn't even close!!! Apartently it doesn't like Aussies!

We're glad you found us! PodZinger does indeed search the audio contents of video podcasts. Click the radio button for 'video' search on the PodZinger main page. Then try searching for "podcast" or "Moussaoui". In the first example, results include hits in both the metadata from the RSS feed and in the text index snippets. In the latter example, you can see many of the results are only in the snippets and would not have been found with just a metadata search.

It's true if your search term isn't currently in our recognition dictionary, it won't get any hits in our text index, only the RSS metatdata. We actively update the vocabulary based on what's zing'd and zingable.
