Mike Evangelist (that's his real name) worked at Apple for two years and several times appeared on stage with Steve Jobs as he unveiled new products. Now he's writing a book about his experience via a blog called Writers Block Live. He also wrote a terrific byline for The Guardian about how the Stevenote gets made. According to Mike's FAQ, Jobs told him specifically that he'd prefer he didn't write the book, but acknowledged that we live a free country.
Google's faced with a similar situation. And it's taking it a bit more heavy handed. The word on the street is that Google was cracking down on the Xoogler blog, which is written by expatriates. Xoogler Doug Edwards clarified that Google’s PR and legal teams have been working with the ex-Googlers amicably to define some guidelines that will ensure they “don't make their lives entirely miserable.” Google's lucky Ron and Doug are menches.
