Ben Popken has found these viral Burger King ads featruing Brook Burke on Google Video. I had heard about the TV campaign at the WOMMA conference. It's generating a lot of good word of mouth.
So here's my “think” question. Who released these on Google Video? Was it Burger King, its agency or just some passionate consumer evangelists? And, more importantly, how does the consumer know who did so?
If it's Burger King, they need to identify themselves and follow the WOMMA guidelines. I suspect that's not what we're looking at here. My gut says these were uploaded by a consumer. According to this new Northeastern study by Walter Carl, consumers want to know if they are being marketed to. The problem is, it's very easy for anyone to pass themselves off as a marketer as this episode demonstrates.
