Future Proof Your Blog with the New RSS Icon

Stephen Davies commented that he likes my new RSS feed icon. Now that Mozilla and Microsoft have standardized on this icon, I see little need to use the old XML or RSS orange buttons any longer. One reason is that this icon is how the coming wave of new RSS users will recognize feeds. Another is that it's truly global. The symbol works in every language.

I agree. This is the right direction for XML syndication (not only RSS) to become the second e-mail of the internet.

A lot of people get really confused because some websites have RSS and the other Atom while most readers accept both.

With this icon, 'online syndication' will be recognised a lot better for the general public.

A globalized technology requires globalized iconography, to be sure.

Alas, I'll have to modify my logo accordingly, but fortunately there's a natural place for it.

Good post, Steve.
