Blogs Give You News You Can't Find Anywhere Else
One reason I turn to the blogosphere for news is that you find gems that you can't unearth anywhere else. For example, my interest was piqued this morning when I saw on Technorait's top searches a spike in queries for Christopher Walken. Sure enough, I found out that he's running for President. As of right now the news media hasn't really picked up on this one yet...but they will.
UPDATE: Some are saying this is a hoax. Anyone know for sure?

Blogs seem to serve two purposes: scoops and links to information.
As you pointed out, they can be great for news scoops (or scams). Drudge made his mark during the Clinton Administration.
But, they are also great for links -- to resources, other blogs, etc.
That's the great thing about blogging/citizen journalism: the timing and seemlingly free sources of other information.
If curious (feel free to edit this out when posted), I'd appreciate anyone else's feedback to this very same question: Why blog?

There must be a very good reason why you cannot find it anywhere :)
