It's a funny bit but, of course, Pogue misses the point. So easy to just poke fun when you're the NYT.

Yes, 99% of all podcasts are lousy and "amateur." But they don't have to be silly or inane or vain or poorly produced.

Our company is an ad firm that is doing niche sport podcasts. One that's doing very well, and I'm sure this will amaze Mr. Pogue, is http://www.thecurlingshow.com/. (It's a completely different podcast than the one he featured.) We interview the sport's top athletes — yes, there are great athletes who curl — and give the sport's many fans the kind of coverage mainstream media does not. (Not that they don't cover curling — it's a great sports media property in Canada and will be featured extensively in the upcoming Olympics.)

Anyway, the point is that podcasts won't continue to be poorly produced. People with broadcast production skills can use them to serve audiences unique content. At least our show is keeping a rapidly growing audience of nearly 2,000 listeners a week away from things like reality TV for a little while.

Our only dilemma is we're having trouble getting our feed in the ITunes directory. You can subscribe to our feed in ITunes — we just can't get listed. We're working on it with Apple but would love to hear from others who have had the same problem.
