Sell on Search
As you can see from the screen shot at left. One of my posts is, as of this writing, #3 on Google for Kensington Locks. What's worse, it's about their recent crisis.
If you're a silent corporate blogging believer hoping to push for change (e.g. getting involved), my advice is sell on search. It's something many execs already buy into. Show how blogs are already impacting your search results. Include keywords related to your company and products and your industry. Think about what keywords consumers might be searching on.
If your company has a voice in the conversation that's already taking place, it can impact your search results. If you don't, then you're at the mercy of Google.

So true! I posted that video too and hit a couple thousand downloads plus now all across the search engines not just Google, (your post is 1st on Yahoo!). And you would think they would react differently as their prime target market is tech savvy people that would probably do a search before buying one of their locks.
sighs...
P.S. there seems to be a problem with posting a comment it kept giving me different errors and then removed my url and still wouldn't work.

Who should search belong to? Is it the PR department, the marketing department?
It's too bad you passed on being on the panel at OMMA on the issue, as it's likely that the two of us have very different views on the subject.

Hey Steve,
We live in a strange world. As you know I am from NJ and so is Kingston Locks. Of course, I called on them about blogging and our blogging tools/services - Ideascape. You'd think these guys would be interested in helping themselfs. "Not at this time!" Go figure. Maybe if we all pretend it never happened it will go away. The sad fact is, this kind of stuff does not register in their minds as being important. http://www.advancinginsights.com/mybiz/fear_greed_ignorance_liars_blogit

Amen, when I give talks and presentations, I frequently tell the story of Zip.ca. Check out the #2 spot for why:
