Microsoft Recruiting Paid Bloggers

MsnblogjobMSN recently put out a call to hire paid bloggers to write and edit Web sites about five broad topics: fashion/food/style, music, sports, technology, and television, MediaPost reports. The marketing news site says MSN recruiting ads began appearing on various journalism career sites such as Mediabistro.com and JournalismJobs.com late last week. I have confirmed the report (see screenshot at left from MediaBistro). The ads sought editors to write and produce between 5 and 10 blog posts a day; review user submissions; and monitor comments and feedback. I gave my take to MediaPost for their report. I sum it up in four words - sounds like Mungo Park.

That's pretty awesome! I think paid part-time blogging is one industry that's gonna fly.

Let me guess, are their posts going to extoll how great MSN is? Will there be full disclosure that they are being paid to post by MSN?

You say in the MediaPost article, they it looks like they're going to hire writers "on the cheap". You know what they're paying?

I actually think they're going about this completely the wrong way. If they're serious about publishing blogs, they should be approaching the talent that's already out there blogging in those fields and make those folk reasonable offers of employment.

Isn't that the way Denton worked? Dunno. But it makes sense to try and employ someone with a track record and a readymade audience. Like any job.

I agree with the poster that says they should go out and find people who are already doing it. Microsoft could add tremendous traffic back to the bloggers main business and give some credibility as well.

A Paid Blogger is a writer for hire. Nothing wrong with that at all. I bet the majority of bloggers out there today who pump out the posts do it for free.
