Writer Says Businesses Should Avoid Blogs

Smart companies don't blog, according to AlwaysOn writer Jesse Tayler, "because they simply do not return extra value or information from the investment." Huh? Jesse, show me the money. Where's the proof behind your argument? If you're going to make a claim like that, back it up. I guess Microsoft's smashing success with corporate blogs is like Wonder Woman's Invisible Plane.

This is VERY misleading, Steve. Jesse Tayler is a member of the AlwaysOn Network, nothing more. He is NOT a columnist nor in any way affiliated with AO. Anybody can join. Saying "AlwaysOn writer" is ridiculous.

As you know, I write the "Letter from China" column for the AlwaysOn Network. However, it would even be misleading to call me an "AlwaysOn columnist"; rather, "a columnist for the AlwaysOn Network" would be more accurate.

My views do NOT necessarily reflect Tony's views -- or the views of some sort of AO collective (and there's not much "collective" about the AO membership). Of course, Tony and I share many similar values, but that's coincidental. Besides, when it comes to blogging, Tony is in YOUR camp. He calls me the "anti-blogger blogger" (which is dispute). Anyway, try not to use this label again. Certainly Tony doesn't share Jesse's view, even though I might to a certain extent.

If you Google "blogworking", suprise! The number one is Netmodular Blogworking, and it's the company that employs the author of the AO piece, Jesse Taylor.

I beg to differ with your commenter above, Steve, who claims: "Jesse Tayler is a member of the AlwaysOn Network, nothing more. He is NOT a columnist nor in any way affiliated with AO."

True that he's a member of the AO network, and that anyone can join - but it's not as simple as that. Jesse Tayler's company is a supplier to AO. The AO site runs on Jesse's "Blogworking" software. Tony Perkins' own page on AO describes Jesse (tongue in cheek) as "Part of the AO mafia". That's a pretty clear affiliation, if you ask me.

What's worse is the fact that Jesse's stuff is billed as "editorial", when it's clearly promoting his own product - in clear and complete contravention of the AO "bushido" code of conduct. I've ranted at length on this topic, over here: http://tinyurl.com/dddhc and here: http://tinyurl.com/9ggz9
