Blogging is Not About Starring in a Conversation, It's About Having a Conversation with Stars
Matthew Podboy and his crew have coined a new term – blegomaniacs. It’s short for blogging egomaniacs. In his post Matthew offers the PR community and all other bloggers for that matter some sound advice...
PR bloggers need to stick together. Practice what you preach, folks. Validate this form of communication by encouraging others to join us. Compliment one another. Open source your ideas and help make this a win-win for the PR community. Don’t let your Blego get in the way.
Matthew makes some excellent points. No one blogger should feel like they're any more "important" than anyone else because they get noticed. Most of us should be here to "Napsterize" our knowledge. This is one of the tenets of the amazing book, Creating Customer Evangelists. It is what keeps people coming back to your blog again and again.
This is why I really appreciate the folks who publish full text RSS feeds. They're fine giving away their content because they realize that blogging is all about sharing, not traffic. I also like folks who are willing to link – sometimes with humor - to their critics. This tells me the blogger is not too big for their britches.
I will never forget the rush I felt when I got my first link from Constantin Basturea. That's why from today on I promise that anybody who launches a blog on marketing, PR, journalism or media can always email me to get a link from my blog, should they so desire. It's all part of what makes the blogosphere a wonderful place.
If you're blogging to grab more links and more attention than others, then you’re in the wrong place. Check your blego at the door. Blogging is not about starring in a conversation, it's about having a conversation with stars!
