Anal Retentive PR (1904-2004)

Wayne Hurlbert has written a heckuva thoughtful essay on blogging and PR. His conclusion...

Old style tightly controlled public relations are becoming a thing of the past.

Get into the new public relations paradigm, by adding the personalized voice of a blog.

One hundred years ago Ivy Lee and George Parker founded the first public relations firm. Behold, the controlled message we have come to know, love and depend on, was born. Today, one hundred years later we have all lost control. Rathergate should by now have taught us that anyone with a passion, time and a computer can become a "respected media outlet."

Wayne's right. The era of Anal Retentive PR is over, folks. Welcome to the golden age of transparency.

Thanks for the mention and kind words about my post on the changing paradigm in public relations.

I agree with you, the old style public relations techniques revolving around a tightly controlled mesage, are long gone.

In the age of the internet in general, and blogging in particular, the as you put it "anal retentive" ideas simply won't work any longer. A new era of personal and transparent public relations is dawning.

Rest in peace, old style public relations.
