Amazon.com today launched plogs, PaidContent.org reports. But perhaps what's most interesting here is that they have trademarked the word "plog," which others have been widely using!
Here's how the trademark filing describes plogs...
DELIVERY OF MESSAGES BY ELECTRONIC TRANSMISSION; ELECTRONIC MESSAGING SYSTEM, NAMELY ELECTRONIC QUEUING SERVICES; ELECTRONIC TRANSMISSION OF MESSAGES AND DATA; PROVIDING ON-LINE FORUMS FOR TRANSMISSION OF MESSAGES AMONG COMPUTER USERS CONCERNING A WIDE VARIETY OF TOPICS; PROVIDING ON-LINE ELECTRONIC BULLETIN BOARDS FOR TRANSMISSION OF MESSAGES AMONG COMPUTER USERS CONCERNING A WIDE VARIETY OF TOPICS
Amazon calls its plog service "a diary of events that will enhance your shopping experience, helping you discover products that have just been released, track changes to your orders, and many other things." The trademark application was filed in January 2003, but was published June 1.
