Bloggers Running Ad Campaigns on Google
Several webloggers as of this writing, including A Penny For, The Sales Blog, Wonderbranding (search term - business blog) and ElectaBlog (search term - political blog) are using Google Adwords to drive awareness and traffic. Smart idea.

I'd toyed with this on some earlier blogs I'd worked on, just for fun to see what the traffic would do. For my media site, I'm more and more tempted to do it as a regular "advertising" medium. It's all about what you consider "worth it" to get the traffic to your site. If anything, it's an interesting way to invest in your site for a few months in order to grab some readership. Then, if you want to, you can halt the ads after some time or if you don't find them to work out. Kudos to these bloggers for doing so.

Note that some do this simply to use Google to check for keyword searches. That's why I bought mine. Here's a month's worth of searches for my name (compared with traffic to my blog).

I think it's a great idea...If you don't get carried away and start bidding on terms that will empty your bank account.
Blogging is a great way to become slightly famous. You can create a niche blog and pull in thousands of people who want to hear what you have to say.
Unfortunately, these days, it's the political blogs that are getting all the run in the press and stealing all the traffic.
